I had an incident some years ago when I picked up two young boys – about 11-12 years old – they had lost their bus fare money and needed to get home. On the way, I said to them, “Aren’t you worried about hitchhiking, how do you know I won’t take you and dump you somewhere.” They thought for a moment before one of them said, “We’ll take our chances.” After dropping them off, I went to the police station and reported it, giving the police their address. The police said they’d go and talk to their parents about instilling into their boys the dangers of accepting lifts from strangers.
