I have just finished the most frustrating edits I have EVER done! We are up to the lay-out stage (Type setting stage in Australia) and I requested almost 400 changes in 190 pages! 90% of the changes were to hyphenated words at the end of a line. And the winner is….. hospital- (on one line) ity (on the next line) = hospitality.

On a much happier note, my cute little picture book seems to be selling well in the US. I just wish it could get on the shelves here in Australia. Sales figure below…

Between January – March 2013, a total of 1452 books were sold. Next statement will hopefully have a cheque worth banking.

Good Monday Morning to you all :)

Last week I felt as though I was running on empty.  So far this year, I have had one operation and had another postponed till next year. I have seen a Doctor, Dentist, Orthodontist, Periodontist, Prosthodontist, Anesthetist, a Podiatrist Surgeon,  Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon, Neurosurgeon, Urological Surgeon, Haematologist, Neurologist, Naturopath and a Clinical Psychologist.  I’ve had an Ultra sound, Xray, MRI and a CT scan. I have successfully undergone EMDR therapy, had a malignant tumor removed and chemo treatment.

It’s been quite a year. And as the end of 2012 approached, I was tired and down-hearted. I thought about giving up on many things. And then, out of the blue comes a pick-me-up from friends on the other side of the country…

photo-24I ducked out for a few minutes on Friday evening at about 7 pm, and returned home to find that a beautiful potted rose with a new bloom and a bud ready to open had been delivered. Something so simple had a profound affect on me. It was like being infused with encouragement and enthusiasm. I believe I can keep going.

Thank you, my friends at Sunset Publishing: Darryl, Sue and Jean.

No matter how bad things are, there is always some good to be found. And no matter how good things are, there is always something bad that must be faced. God has blessed me, and I feel like a winner!

My cute little picture book, It Doesn’t Matter, has now been made into a colouring book.

If anyone needs a Christmas stocking filler, the picture book is on sale in the US (and through me) for $10, and the colouring book is available through me for $5 plus postage.

My picture book ‘IT DOESN’T MATTER’ is now on sale :)

Those who live in Australia or New Zealand, you can contact me privately (contact page at the top of this blog) for bank info, everyone else who would like to buy the book can do so through Tate Publishing in the US here

Many of you have seen the cover before here so now I will show you some pages from the picture book. The gorgeous illustrations were done by the talented Katie Brooks at Tate Publishing.

The last page reveals what DOES matter… :)

This book measures about 14 x 21 cm and has 24 pages. In the back is a code to download the audio book free of charge. Christmas is coming up – those who have or know young children, this would be a wonderful gift.

I think it’s time for a writing update:

Operation Foxtrot Five is on sale in the US now, and I believe the book trailer is being shown on US television. I don’t have any sales figures yet, so I have no idea how it is doing.

Operation Delta Bravo has just finished its final edit. I’m pretty sure all the fullstops and speech marks are in place :) It will be on sale before Christmas in the US.

The picture book, It Doesn’t Matter, is either on sale or very close to being on sale. I received a copy of the Spanish edition for my book shelf. So exciting!

Operation Alpha Papa is still in the final editing stage at Tate Publishing.

Operation Tango Two-Two is undergoing its first edits. So there’ll be some work for me to do next month :) Another cover to plan – I love this stage!

My second picture book is ready to be submitted – just haven’t had time to think about that this last month.

Book 6 in the Operation series is still where it was in March this year. That makes me feel sad. I had set my heart on finishing it this year, but it is looking unlikely now.

Book 7 in the Operation series is still just a file of notes. That makes me sad too.

Social media/networking is up and running, and just this week I opened a twitter account. Don’t quite know what to do with it, but I have one. Tweet-tweet :) Who’s out there?

Now, here’s my dilemma, and I’m open to suggestions…

My US publisher wanted all this networking in place in order to promote my books. But… by the time I spend 4 – 6 hours a day (7 days a week) on all these sites, I’m not in the right mental space or have the time to write. And if I don’t have time to write, my US publisher won’t have any more of my books to sell. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I was hugely disappointed last week when I discovered a mistake had been made regarding the size of my picture book.

Somewhere along the line, my wishes for the largest size picture book were not passed along. My cute little picture book really is ‘little’ now. I almost cried when the expectations of this book came crashing down. I felt like the book was doomed to fail.

Who was to blame for this? Ultimately it is my responsibility to make sure every production process knows my wishes, no matter how many times I feel that I am repeating myself. I was reminded of Romans 8:28 which says ‘ And we know that all that happens to us is working for our good if we love God and are fitting into his plans.’ (Living Bible)

With that in mind, I could look at it differently. Okay, I’ve got this ‘little’ book now, is it really doomed to fail just because of its size? Of course not. It fits in an A5 envelope, which will be less expensive to post. I can actually fit 10 or more soft covers into the one envelope if I have a request for 10. Which is not out of the question if things go as I hope. I want this book to be used in aid organizations, hospitals, welfare agencies, etc., so having orders of 10 at a time is quite possible. Because the book is smaller, the price will be less, making it more affordable to purchase and to ship overseas. And I’m sure over time, I will find even more reasons to be glad about the size of my little book.

Today I thought I’d give an update of the various projects on the go…

1. The picture book is up to creating the story board – I will soon see all the illustrations and there will be a small window to make any changes. But Katie is doing such a great job, I’m not expecting to have to make changes :) The book will be in print late October.

2. I’m guessing that Foxtrot has been printed, though I haven’t actually heard.

3. Delta is nearing the typeset stage.

4. Alpha has just started the first edit stage.

5. Romeo is still languishing in the depths of my computer, unworked for about 6 months now :(  I’m coming, Romeo, I’m coming…

6. I’ve pulled out some of my other picture book ideas and are seeing which ones are worth pursuing.

7. Scripting has started on the movie trailer – they hope to start filming in September. At this stage, there is just going to be a 5 minute trailer to gauge interest in making the ‘Operation’ Books into a TV series.

As you can see, there is plenty happening on the writing front :)
